What inspired you to pursue a career in IT?

IT has always intrigued me. There is something so alluring about the way it shapes our world. Until I gained the confidence to step inside the space, I was very intimidated by all the avenues and moving parts. It wasn’t until a former manager of mine reached out and offered me a job that I really considered how much I could enjoy and excel in the field. Sometimes you need that push to get uncomfortable and expand your horizons!

 

What is the most challenging part about being a woman in IT?

Going for it…in every sense of the phrase. Often times the most challenging part is just showing up and being present for whatever lies ahead. Those scary or intimidating things are just opportunities to grow.

For me, it’s all about watching people evolve and succeed.

 

Why is diversity in business important to you?

Diversity is synonymous with Diversity is crucial. Having a diverse organization ensures people feel seen, heard, and represented. It is really a non-negotiable in my eyes. At the end of the day, we are all humans with varying backgrounds and experiences. The most beautiful part of it all is that no two people are the same and the possibilities are endless when businesses create an environment that is safe, welcoming, and diverse.

 

What advice would you give an aspiring female IT leader?

First and foremost, understand that a bad day, week, or even month does not diminish your value and what you bring to the table. Be willing to shift your mindset and perspective and be open to learning. Network, network, network. Feedback is important for improvement, despite how uncomfortable it can feel. Did I mention network?
