Why Diversity in IT Matters: Interview with Karen Posey

Founder & CEO

KP Strategies

What inspired you to pursue a career in IT?

It was fast-paced, ever-changing and exciting!

What is the most challenging part about being a woman in IT?

Finding other women to collaborate and partner with! That’s why [joining a] group is so important!

What is the most rewarding part about being a woman in a leadership role?

Seeing how you can make a significant impact with individuals and companies as a whole based on your approach and strategic mindset.

Why is diversity in business important to you?

We all need diversity in thought, ideas and plans. That’s what gives us the perspective to make the best decisions.

What advice would you give an aspiring female IT leader?

You have many gifts. Find out how and when to leverage them. Also, the BEST and FASTEST way to succeed is listening to your most important clients (Pareto principle) at a Decision Maker level.

Finally, don’t let the fact that there are always more men at conferences [get you down]. At least you never have to wait for a bathroom 🙂

Want to tell us anything else?

I’m a management consulting firm that works with 12 IT CEO’s through Ingram Micro. I also used to run a branch of SARCOM back in the day for 8 years. I’m a certified woman-owned business (I’m a part of WBEC-WEST, Colorado Forum Vice-Chair). I also work with Start-up, especially women in the IT and healthcare space.
