As we continue to celebrate Women's History Month, I want to spotlight a specific organization that has significantly impacted my growth in technology. Joining CRN's Women of the Channel (WOTC) about four years ago was a pivotal moment for me. I was seeking a safe space to share my thoughts, and the welcoming, supportive community I found there was exactly what I needed. Their advice and openness helped me grow professionally and personally.
March is a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women throughout history, and this Women's History Month, I am taking a moment to shine a light on the remarkable women who have been instrumental to my journey and the success of BlackHawk Data.
Gender Disparities in Tech
Women are expected to make up 47.2% of the workforce by 2024. However, the tech industry is still lagging behind the curve. Only 26% of computing jobs are held by women. Of those women, only 3% are black, 6% are Asian and 2% are Hispanic. The numbers are clear; even in today’s modern times, women (and especially women of color) are fighting uphill battles to participate in tech.
Celebrating BlackHawk Data's First CRN Triple Crown Win
In a groundbreaking achievement, BlackHawk Data has secured its position as a first-time Triple Crown winner in the prestigious 2023 CRN (Channel Reseller News) rankings. This remarkable accomplishment not only highlights the company's exceptional growth and outstanding performance in the information technology sector but also underscores its unique status as a women-owned enterprise.
Challenge
An effective representation of BlackHawk Data's superior IT services can be elucidated through their interaction with a NY-based gaming facility. This enterprise faced an unprecedented crisis when their data center experienced power loss; a significant glitch which forced their network equipment into a reset mode. Following this, the core switch stack, responsible for multiple applications and internet access, failed to resume operations. Efforts to rectify the issue by their prevailing Managed Services Provider (MSP) proved futile, leaving this gaming facility in an operational standstill.
